About Scattering Gold

“If I was a princess — a real princess,” she murmured, “I could scatter gold to the populace. But even if I am only a pretend princess, I can invent little things to do for people…She was just as happy as if it was gold. I’ll pretend that to do things people like is scattering gold. I’ve scattered gold.”

~A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett

When I read these words aloud to my daughter for the first time, the imagery of this kind little girl spreading love around as if it were gold stopped me in my tracks. I pictured this little girl so sure that she was loved that she could freely, eagerly even, show love to others — and without regard to whether the recipients were deserving in the first place.

And I wondered if maybe this invisible gold could be more than just imaginary.

The gold I write about in my monthly emails is the physical sign of God’s love. It’s the good works He prepared in advance for you to do and it’s His strength that you’ll use to do them.

Let’s fill our pockets with gold and then scatter it away freely throughout our day. We can always get more when we run out. We just need to remember who to ask.
